This probably wouldn't be so cute if she was 16

I'm always amazed by the complete freedom and lack of self-consciousness toddlers feel about their bodies. I think Maddie has had some of her happiest moments stripping off her clothes and dancing around happily on the patio. In fact, if she could run around without clothes all day, she would.

We adults are so different. I remember once before having had Maddie, I escorted my friend's 4 year old son to the toilet. We entered the stall and I thought to myself, "Do I not look? Should I wait outside??? Do boys at this age sit or stand???". I shuffled around, uncomfortably, asking hopefully if he needed privacy??? He, on the other hand, knew just what to do - lowered his pants, did his business, flushed, and that was it.

We were at a friend's house this week for dinner. Their 3 year old son went to use the potty, and Maddie, not to be outdone declared immediately after he finished, "I have to go potty too!"

So she ran into the bathroom, lowered her pants and hopped up onto the toilet.

He watched seriously for a few moments - me being the prude that I am thought briefly, "Are boys allowed to watch at this age??". Then he suddenly shouted, "Wait Maddie wait!". He ran out into the living room for a moment - and came back with a camera, "I'm going to take your picture!"

I looked at Maddie, about to intervene...but then she spoke up.

"No, Matthew", she said - and I thought for a moment, "Oh good! It's time to interject about something we all need to learn about and it's called P-R-I-V-A-C-Y!"

But then, my girl who never EVER poses for cameras, leaned forward with a big smile, and said, "Take a VIDEO!"

Ha ha ha! Your story made my day. What are we going to do with these seem-to-know-everything-but-not-quite-there-yet kiddos!
